The United States Army Corps of Engineers Research and Development Center needed a large amount of space for new super computers, and adjacent office and laboratory space for top researchers to use them. The building is a recruiting tool for attracting young brilliant engineers to Mississippi. The super computer rooms are designed to be viewed from the lounge. They house an ever-changing system of the latest in computer technology. As the super computers are being installed, the ITL is already scoping out the next computer to take its place. The shelters are linear with raised flooring to house the computer’s wiring and independent cooling systems.
The building is designed to meet the Corps of Engineer’s Sustainable Design and Development criteria. The criteria are based on LEED silver qualifications
