The Oaks House Museum

The Oaks House Museum (Boyd House) is one of the oldest residences in Jackson and was home to Mayor James Boyd, his wife Eliza Ellis Boyd, and their family. The museum preserves and interprets the circa 1853 Oaks House, its collection, and grounds, to depict the life of a middle-class family on a mid-19th-century urban farmstead. Working with The Colonial Dames of America and the Oaks House Museum Corporation,  Canizaro Cawthon Davis designed a new media presentation room within a 20th century addition, inserted a handicapped accessible toilet and a small office, and designed a concealed fire sprinkler system to protect the building. The work was hidden in secondary spaces to minimally impact the historic structure.
