Holy Family Catholic Church
Located in a racially diverse neighborhood in Jackson, Mississippi, the church was designed to provide a permanent place of worship for 150 families and present a clear Roman Catholic image. A tower provides a focal point for the church building and for the street-scape. Horizontal bands in groups of three represent the three members of the Holy Family and the Holy Trinity. The church has a modified basillican plan with a traditional narthex, baptistry, nave and sanctuary. The central nave is a soaring open space with exposed wood trusses and wood deck ceiling. Bright pendant fixtures hang from above and clerestory windows flood the tall space with sunlight. The side aisle areas have more intimate ceilings, also with exposed wood beams and wood deck ceilings. Finishes are bright and simple to enhance the focus on the altar and on Christ.
